How do I ask for online Remote Assistance?
This article was tested with Windows XP.
There are a few ways to ask for remote assistance, but unless you are using Outlook as your email program you will need to send me the remote assistance request as an attachment, here is how to do it:
- Click Start, click Help and Support, and then click Remote Assistance. This will start the remote assistance wizard.
- Click Invite someone to help you, and then select Save Invitation as a file.
- Enter your name, and then choose a time on the Set the Invitation to Expire drop down box, (the default is 1 hour). Click Continue.
- Type in a password and then click Save Invitation. The Save File dialog box appears. Save the file to your local hard drive, I like to use the Desktop.
- E-mail the file as an attachment to the person that is going to help you, it should have the name RAInvitation.msrcincident. If the receiver doesn't get the file with this name it can be renamed and will still work.
- Enter the address of your helper and send the e–mail. You will need to inform your helper of the password you set. You can do this in a separate e–mail, over the telephone, or any way that is convenient and secure.
