Matching the 'officecolor' laser printer to your screen colors

Here is a great tip to help you match your screen colors to the iSchool Faculty/Staff color printer named 'officecolor'. Please note that this setting change does not produce exact color matching, but in our experience your green, blue and violet colors will more closely resemble what you see on your screen with this general configuration option change.

The process of matching printer output to your monitor is quite complex because printers and computer monitors use different methods of producing color. This kind of exacting customization is not covered in this article and we recommend checking your printer manual for specific details for exact color matching.

Once you change your general color matching options for the 'officecolor' printer you do not need to perform the changes again and the change will be reflected in all of the programs on your computer.

Here are the steps in detail, along with a picture to describe the process:

  1. Open the Control Panel and select the Printers and Faxes control panel applet.
  2. Right-click the printer that says 'officecolor on fileserv' and select Properties.
  3. From the general tab select 'Printing Preferences...'.
  4. In the printing preferences window select the 'Color' tab.
  5. Change the Colorsmart II radio button from 'Automatic' to 'Manual' and click the 'Options' button.
  6. In the Manual Color Options window switch all of the color maps from the 'Vivid' setting to 'Screen Match'.
  7. Click the 'Ok' button for each of the three windows to preserve your setting changes.
