About Your iSchool User Account
iSchool Account
All iSchool students are assigned an iSchool UserID. Your UWNetID is used to access central campus resources, while your iSchool UserID is used to access iSchool-specific resources.
| Important Note While we made your iSchool ID the same as your UWNetID, remember that they are two completely different accounts on two completely different systems. For example, when you change your UWNetID password, your iSchool password does not change! We hope to someday make the iSchool password and the UWNetID password automatically synchronize, but that is not currently possible. We strongly recommend that you use the same password in both places and keep it consistent on both systems. It’s just easier to remember. Whenever you change your iSchool password, change your UW password as well, by visiting: https://uwnetid.washington.edu/manage/ |
Initial Log In
The initial password for your iSchool UserID is pre-assigned and it is your last name (CASE SENSITIVE) followed by a space and then your student ID number. For example, if your name is Jane McDoe and your student ID is 1234567 then your initial password would be McDoe 1234567.
The first time you log in, you are required to change your password. To do so, you must log in to a computer in one of the iSchool labs. You will be prompted to create a new password after entering the pre-assigned one.
Creating a Strong PassphraseWe recommend using passphrases instead of passwords, because passwords are known to be flawed. It’s too easy for a computer to run through a dictionary, trying word after word to break your password and gain access to your files. The passphrase are easy to create; you simply use a well-known phrase known only by you. Passphrases are very difficult to crack because of the computer processing involved—attempting all possible letter-word combinations.
Recommendations | Examples of Strong Passphrases |
Use more than 15 characters Use a number or symbol within the phrase | *hard work, pays well*
