Video Conference
Video Conferencing Options at the iSchool
Within the iSchool there are basically two options for video conferencing.
1) At the iSchool we have one conference room that is equipped with a Polycom video conferencing device. The room is "MGH 310D-Conference Room" and needs to be reserved via the Public Folders in Outlook. If you need help operating the Polycom, please contact iSchool IT at help@ischool.washington.edu to schedule a training session or to have them drop by and turn this on and/or off when you need it. The Polycom provides very high quality video, audio and requires that all the other parties have a Polycom device as well. Our Polycom connects over IP and can be found at polycom.ischool.washington.edu.
2) You can also use any webcam and most any video conferencing software like Windows Live Messenger or Microsoft NetMeeting, etc. Most any instant messenger software has video capabilities these days. This just requires that all the other parties also run the same instant messenger program and that everyone involved has a fast connection to the internet and a webcam with a microphone. No conference room is required for this and in fact, it usually is better if everyone involved has their own computer, webcam and quiet office to minimize background noise.
Outside of the iSchool there is the Videoconference Studio in Odegaard Library.
The new Videoconference Studio, located in Odegaard Undergraduate Library 320, allows groups from around the world to meet and collaborate. The studio, designed to be flexible and to accommodate connectivity with most far-end locations, employs several videoconferencing technologies, including Access Grid Node, ConferenceXP, and Polycom via H.323 (IP) and H.320 (ISDN).
