How to reset the battery on the IBM ThinkPad X30, X41 and T43
As batteries get older, they lose their ability to hold a charge. In addition, if you continually top off the battery instead of letting it discharge fully and then charge it fully, it tends to develop a 'memory' of a slightly discharged state and this further exacerbates the problem. Although you can't make an old batter new, you can perform some maintenance to allow it to hold more of a charge.
Prior to beginning this procedure, make sure that your laptop is plugged into your AC power adaptor but it does not need to be connected to your dock.
1) Double click the green battery icon in your task bar to bring up the Power Manager. If there is no icon in your task bar, go to Start > All Programs > Access IBM > Power Manager.
2) In the Power Manager, click the Battery Information tab.
3) Click the Battery Maintenance button.
4) Click the Perform Reset button which will bring up the Battery Gauge Reset confirmation dialogue box.
NOTE – this process will take some time! Expect it to take at least six hours and possibly longer so perform the reset overnight or during the day when you do not need your laptop.
If you are okay with this amount of time, click the Continue button to perform the battery reset.
