Disabling and Enabling EndNote add-in in Microsoft Word 2007
As of 24 August, 2007 (which is when we discovered this problem on iSchool computers) there is a bug in the new version of EndNote that can cause Word 2007 to stop functioning. Word will crash on start-up or close for no apparent reason.
EndNote is a 3rd party product that allows you to create bibliographies and manage references in papers. We have contacted the manufacturer for a fix but don't have one yet.
As a result, We recommend that you disable the EndNote add-in that is installed in Word for now. The Add-in creates the special "EndNote" tab across the top of the Word ribbon and by disabling it you won't be able to use EndNote while in Word.
Do this:
Open Word 2007.
Click the Office button (round button in the top left corner).
At the bottom of that dialog box select Word Options.
On the left side select Add-Ins.
You will see a list of all the add-ins and templates installed in Word. At the bottom select Manage: COM Add-Ins and hit the GO button.
On the list of Add-Ins you will see "Cite as You Write". Uncheck that and hit OK.
Close Word and start it again, the EndNote tab across the top of the Word ribbon should be gone.
ASIDE - Word 2007 now has some features that are fairly similar to what EndNote provides in the box. If you click on the Research tab on the Ribbon, you'll see Word's built in functionality for this type of thing. It might be all you need anyway.
If you need to re-enable Endnote at any point, follow these steps:
Open Word 2007.
Click the Office button (round button in the top left corner).

At the bottom select Manage: COM Add-Ins and hit the GO button.
On the list of Add-Ins you will see "Cite as You Write". Check that box and hit OK.
Close and restart Word. When it is restarted you should see an Endnote tab in the Ribbon.
